El Coto wine review
5.95 Euros, 7.5/10 for us
El Coto is a very good winery in the Rioja Alta with its main vineyards located in Cenicero. It is the biggest winery in the Rioja and produces various wines (I’m not a big fan of their white). But I really like this red, it has become one of my regular house wines.
Description: El Coto has balance: fruity, hints of vanilla, full-bodied, smooth. I compare it to a few other Riojas in this price range: Campo Viejo Crianza (which is fruitier), Lune (which is spicier), Marqués de Cáceres (which has a rough edge). I like all the above. El Coto comes right up the middle, delivering a smooth, dependable, easy to drink wine that everyone will enjoy. You can’t go wrong with this wine.
Value: Excellent value at around 6 Euros and slightly less expensive than most that I listed above.
