The Best Rooftop bar in Nerja
Buddha Bar and Volk’s Bar are the 2 most popular Rooftop bars in Nerja. Funny enough they’re almost right next to each other right within feet of the junction of Calle del Almirante Ferrándiz and Calle de la Gloria.
Buddha Bar
We first went to Buddha Bar which is just up the street from the above junction (they actually have an entrance on both streets but Calle Gloria 13 is the official address). There’s an elevator that takes you up to the 3rd floor where the bar in located.
It’s a large open space. Much of the seating is directly exposed to the sun (already hot in early May) but there are also covered tables with protection (you can call and reserve seating. Their website).
Views are good but not great – there are a lot of obstructions (signs, ugly rooftops, Nerja’s parking lot). You can see the sea over buildings in the background. But the best views are of the mountains.
Buddha Bar serves a huge variety of cocktails. We had a couple of glasses of Cava (sparking wine from the Catalonia region). 5 Euros each.
The bar started filling up during the time we were there, getting quite busy. Most people were tourists or expats.
Volk’s Bar
On the junction of Calle del Almirante Ferrándiz and Calle de la Gloria, you get Volk’s bar by walking into the main restaurant of Sevilliano (NOT Sevillianos Tasquita on the corner with barrels outside). Once inside you’ll find an elevator and, if you walk a few steps further, steps leading up to the rooftop bar.
Volk’s Bar is not as big as Buddha bar. And it is a skinnier bar, the space narrower and highlighted by an atmospheric garden wall on one side. The highlight views are towards the mountains (and the views of the mountains are better than those at Buddha Bar).
The seating was all shaded which was mostly because the narrower space and the walls on either side. And that’s ok, we needed the shade after being in the sun at Buddha bar.
Like Buddha Bar, Volk’s bar serves a huge variety of cocktails. We got a couple of Margaritas – 6.50 Euros each (not cheap) but they were excellent and the bartender wasn’t cheap on the alcohol. They packed a punch.
Volks never got very busy, it’s obviously not as well known as Buddha bar. Their website.
So the best rooftop bar in Nerja?
I think that depends on what you like. We liked the atmosphere and the views at Volk’s bar more. We also liked the little details, like the garden wall and the car and motorcycle models. On the other hand, if you like a larger, trendier space with more people – and direct sun – then you might like Buddha Bar.
